Cynthia Preston On ‘The Cheerleader Escort’. Premieres Saturday, Sept. 14 – 8pm EST/PST on LIFETIME

Written by Andrea Canning, Directed by Alexandre Carriere, Produced by Pierre David and Tom Berry of Reel One Entertainment.

When college freshman Cassie (Alexandra Beaton, The Next Step) earns a spot on the cheerleading squad, she is overjoyed about the new friendships, status, and access to social events that come along with being on the team. When she meets Terry (Damon Runyan, Gangland Undercover), the charismatic President of the Alumni Association, at an event, Cassie finds herself falling for this older man despite their age difference. Terry even helps her out by paying part of her tuition when she falls on hard times. But all is not as it seems when Cassie finds out that members of the team moonlight as escorts with rich alumni, and that the man she’s falling in love with is part of that group. When a friend from the team becomes pregnant and ends up dead under mysterious circumstances, Cassie vows that nothing will stop her from exposing the dark world that surrounds her.  Cynthia Preston (Blanche DuBois in Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan TV series) stars as Cassies’ Mom.

For me, Cynthia Preston was a fascinating and enthusiastic interview. She was eager to praise her coworkers on the film, The Cheerleader Escort, and share other exciting projects she’s involved in.

Cynthia Preston wears many hats!

What drew you to the role in The Cheerleader Escort?

Cynthia Preston. The wonderful script by Andrea Canning and a chance to work with executive producer Pierre David again! Pierre provides a warm atmosphere for his actors to create and is supportive of their visions of the character they are portraying. He is a delight to work with. Playing Alexandra Beaton’s Mom was inspirational. Alexandra is a bright, natural actor and a pleasure to be around. The story is much more than a cheerleader film. The theme of the story exposes the human side of a young woman standing up for herself. It’s about empowering women and supporting them to be courageous and confident. I am so proud of this film.

How did you get into acting?

Cynthia Preston. My acting career happened by chance. I was an extremely shy teenager so my Mom enrolled me in a self/improvement modeling class. I got lucky and landed some international modeling gigs, shortly after graduating high school I landed a part in the CBS television movie Miles to Go as Tom Skerritt’s and Jill Clayburgh’s daughter. After that I just began working continually. I  took had done auditing of classes in Toronto, but I didn’t devote myself to any study until I found the Meisner technique that was suggested by Jeff Goldblum in LA. I checked out the Playhouse West. I loved it, and finally learned the vocabulary of my acting experiences.

You have worked steadily as an actress since 1987. Have you had time to branch out into other areas of the industry?

Cynthia Preston. Absolutely! I have written a feature film, a Thriller/Love Story titled One Thousand Miles Apart.  It bounces between South Africa and the Canadian Rockies.  I have co-directed a short film in Atlanta with my friend and GH alumni Natalia Livingston. I have been developing other projects with writer Cameron Patterson. Cameron is a prolific writer and we have 5 projects in the works!

Can you tell us a little about them?

Cynthia Preston.  One is a true story about Peggy Taylor, A Canadian woman who was a paratrooper and spent World War II as a spy on the Nazi occupiers of France. She joined the Resistance because her mother had been interned by the Germans. Another is called SWING KING, about a 14-year-old boy who goes to live with his mother at a cabin on a lake. There is an aging rock drummer that lives nearby who starts to train him to play the drums. They discover that he has a natural talent and is a drumming prodigy. The magazine Modern Drummer, put us in touch with drummers John Stamos(Beach Boys) and Peter Criss(Kiss) and we are in talks with them to help us create an authentic experience.

Thank you Cynthia!
