Author E.L. James has confirmed that Charlie Hunnam, best known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy and this summer’s Pacific Rim, and Dakota Johnson from the Social Network, will star in her runaway erotic romance novel, 50 Shades of Grey.
The casting has been a highly anticipated event with rumors of everyone from Ryan Gosling and Chris Hemsworth being up for the part of the mysterious Christian Grey, to veteran starlets like Emma Watson and Jennifer Lawrence up for the part of Anastasia Steele. Dakota Johnson is the daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.
The film is being helmed by female director Sam-Taylor-Johnson, from a script by Kelly Marcel. Taylor-Johnson is a well-known English visual artist and director of the John Lennon biopic Nowhere Boy.
50 Shades, dubbed ‘Mommy Porn’, is one of the largest selling books in history, surpassing Harry Potter. It is part of a trilogy so you can expect to see 50 Shades Darker, and 50 Shades Freed if 50 Shades of Grey does well.
50 Shades of Grey will be released August 1, 2014.
