Gwen Stefani was on Jimmy Kimmel Tuesday night where the singer talked about her live video during the Grammy‘s. The singer was the first person ever to film a live video for “Make Me Like You” during the commercial break.
“They’d been talking about it since Christmas and planning it. Every little detail counts. There’s hundreds of people working there,” the pop star told host Jimmy Kimmel. “I personally worked on it probably like six days, maybe, at the most, like 7 in the morning ’til 3 in the morning.”
Gwen also cleared up some confusion regarding the crash scene that happened in the “Make Me Like You” music video. She said it was a stunt double and the crash was planned. They wanted people to think ” ‘Oh, my God! It’s live and she fell.'”
Jimmy Kimmel asked the question we were all wondering is the song about Blake Shelton. “You had a neon sign that said Blake’s. Now, was that for Blake Lively orBlake Griffin, or perhaps maybe another?” he joked. Stefani tried to play coy, telling him, “I don’t know. That was just a coincidence. I don’t know why they put that. That was weird.” Kimmel then tried a more direct approach, asking his guest, “That song is about Blake Shelton?” Stefani laughed at his boldness before answering. “It is, actually,” she said. “I will admit that that song is about that guy, yeah.”
“Isn’t it great that you can take something in your life and you can actually make something out of it that’s a creative expression?”
“What’s so crazy is that sometimes tragedy, if you really absorb it, you can turn it into something beautiful,” she said. “And this whole album is about trying to take something that’s awful, and just, I don’t know, healing from it and then turning it into something beautiful.”
I was laughing when Jimmy said, “That’s the great think about your job because someone that works at Target for instance can’t do that. When they go through something bad they can’t make a hit record.”
