Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the sequel to The Hunger Games , starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson is on track for a mega debut on November 22. It’s marketing campaign is heating up with reports that it could exceed a $150 million opening.
Steve McQueen, director of 12 Years A Slave has just closed a deal to create a series for HBO, his first venture into TV. No stars or production dates are available. Chiwetel Ejifor, the star of 12 Years A Slave, is currently starring on STARZ in the 1930’s London based series Dancing On The Edge, about the 1930’s Jazz scene.
STARZ is also developing a period drama ‘WonderWorld’ with Owen Wilson (his first venture into TV) about FBI agents in the 1980’s who infiltrate the mob porn industry. Emmy Award winning scribe Rene Balcer (Law & Order), is on board for the script.
NBC has given Tina Fey the go ahead on a comedy series starring Ellie Kemper of The Office. Thirteen episodes are contracted to start.
Rachel McAdams will join Keanu Reeves in the long awaited sci-fi film Passengers. The adventure is about a space ship filled with thousands of sleeping time-travelers heading to a new planet. Keanu Reeves wakes up ahead of schedule and then induces Rachel McAdams to do the same.
Mark Wahlberg and Lone Survivor will join the Oscar race with a limited release late in December. Lone Survivor is based on the true story by Marcus Luttrell, Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness account of Operation Red Wing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10. It deals with four soldiers who are sent into the Afghanistan mountains on a mission, only one makes it out alive.
