Julian David Stone, ‘Outlaw Photographer’ Publishes ‘NO CAMERAS ALLOWED’.

Check out Julian David Stone’s stellar Rock and Roll images in his new book, ‘No Cameras Allowed’ available October 16.

No Cameras Allowed: My Career as an Outlaw Rock and Roll Photographer (releasing nationwide October 16, 2018) tells the story, in words and photos, of how Julian David Stone, entirely by sneaking his equipment into concerts, amassed an incredible archive of over ten thousand rock and roll photos. Starting by simply stashing a camera in his socks, then taping equipment all over his body, to finally customizing a jacket to hide equipment from security guards, he shot dozens of the greatest acts: Prince, U2, the Police, David Bowie, R.E.M., the Ramones, Elvis Costello, the Talking Heads, the Grateful Dead, Joan Jett, and many, many more – all from the unique vantage point of the audience, capturing exactly what the fans were seeing and the way the band meant the show to be seen. Culled from this incredible, never–before–seen archive, No Cameras Allowed contains over 250 of his best photos, along with some of the craziest adventures he had as he evaded oversized roadies, aggressive security, and more than a few drunken fans.

Thank you Julian for taking the time to speak with MizHollywood about your adventures as a ‘Rock and Roll’ Outlaw Photographer!

Is there a photographer that inspired you to shoot live Rock and Roll performances?

Julian David Stone. Annie Leibowitz! I couldn’t wait for Rolling Stone to come out to see her latest portrait. I was a big fan and I actually got to hear her speak about being a photographer once in San Francisco.

What kind of camera and equipment did you use?

Julian David Stone. I started with a Canon AE-1 and quickly moved up to a Canon A-1. As I got bolder, braver, and better at sneaking in my equipment, I added different lenses like telephoto and wide angle.

Is there anyone you wished you had photographed but never got the opportunity?

Julian David Stone. ELVIS! I would have loved to photograph the King. I also wished I had photographed some of the English bands, like Culture Club.

What made you stop shooting photos?

Julian David Stone. Being in Los Angeles, I got bit by the movie bug. I wrote a screenplay called ‘Follow the Bitch’ that was made into an Indie film. Michael Cudlitz from AMC’s ‘Walking Dead’ was one of the stars. It won a lot of film awards and is now on DVD. My book Justice Girl, has been optioned for a TV series. It’s about the live TV shows in the 50’s, before they started filming for TV. It’s in development so look for it coming out soon.

Do you sell limited edition prints of the photos in the book?

Julian David Stone.  Yes. You can find them on my website JulianDavidStone.com. You can buy autographed copies of No Cameras Allowed there  as well.

Look for Julian’s book on Amazon.com starting October 16.

Thanks again, Julian.
