Set in the 1920 depression era, newlyweds Serena Pemberton (Jennifer Lawrence) and George Pemberton (Bradley Cooper) move to the North Carolina mountains, near the Great Smoky Mountains, to create a timber empire.
Bradley Cooper plays George Pemberton, whose Boston family owns property near Charlotte in the early 1920’s. He and his new bride Serena decide to relocate there to set up a timber empire for his family. Serena adapts well, not only to the area, but running the business. She’s a fierce
boss who’s not afraid to pitch in and do some dirty work.
When it’s discovered that Serena can not have children, and therefore not deliver an heir for the family empire, things get complicated, George has an affair that produces a child, and that doesn’t go over big with Serena.
