Chiwetal Ejiofor is nominated for a 2014 Academy Award in the Best Actor category for his moving performance as Solomon Northrup in the true story adapted from Northrup’s Autobiography 12 Years A Slave, which has garnered 9  Oscar nominations including Best Picture. It won the Golden Globe Award for Best Drama

Chiwetal Ejiofor is a British film, TV and Theater artist. In 2006 he won the BAFTA Award for Rising Star. He was born in London to Nigerian parents, his Dad being a Doctor and his Mom a Pharmacist. When Chiwetal was 11 he was visiting Nigeria with his Dad when they were both in a horrific car crash that killed his father. He has several visible scars from the crash on his forehead.

Chiwetal studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts where he was noticed by director Steven Spielberg and was cast in Spielberg’s film Armistad. In 2002 he starred in the motion picture Dirty, Pretty Little Things and won a Best Actor Award from the British Independent Film Awards. He has played a cross-dresser in Kinky Boots and had a role in Salt with Angelina Jolie. His name is well known in British drama circles and is enjoying his celebrity in the US with the success of 12 Years A Slave.
