Newsies With Jeremy Jordan Will Hit Cinemas in 2017

Jeremy Jordan and Broadway cast of Newsies are coming to a cinema near you in 2017. Disney Theatrical Productions and Fathom Events have announced that a filmed performance of the musical production is definitely hitting the big screen.

Jeremy Jordan will star, reprising his Tony Award-nominated performance as Jack Kelly, along with original cast members Kara Lindsay (Katherine), Ben Fankhauser (Davey), and Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Crutchie). North American tour stars Steve Blanchard (Joseph Pulitzer) and Aisha de Haas (Medda Larkin) also join the cast, with additional performers from the Broadway and North American tour ensemble.

Jeremy and other returning original cast members will join the cast of the North American tour for one performance only that will be filmed on Sunday, September 11 at The Hollywood Pantages Theatre in Hollywood in front of an invited audience. The in-cinema release and ticket-on-sale dates will be announced later this year.

After seeing the 1992 Newsies movie I knew it had to come to Broadway eventually. The musical tells the story of a group of tenacious newsboys at the turn of the last century who band together to form a union and lead a strike after selling prices are raised. The musical won Tony Awards for Best Original Score Written for the Theatre and Best Choreography. It features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by Harvey Fierstein.
