Side By Side: A Celebration of Service is a documentary shot on the front lines in New York City and is partnered with Northwell Health. This one-hour feature was created for WNBC4 in New York and airs on Memorial Day, May 25th. The special honors our medical professionals and veterans on the front lines of the pandemic crisis.
The original plan for the documentary was to celebrate the health workers with a one-hour feature and a celebrity concert. When the pandemic hit, ARE collectively made a pivot to celebrate the heroes and the community support pf those who are providing food and other services. ARE also focused on the 7 pm “clappy-hour” that honors essential workers.
The crew practiced safety measures while shooting for six days in New York City in April. All of the production meetings across different cities were conducted via Zoom.
Northwell Health is New York State’s largest health care provider and private employer.
Al Roker Entertainment has joined with Northwell Health to produce this year’s Side By Side: A Celebration of Service which will be a Memorial Day television special honoring health care and military heroes who are serving on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York.
The special will then be available for all to screen on May 26 at SideBySideNYC.com
Additionally, each Monday in May leading up to the TV special, Northwell Health has been amplifying New York City’s 7:00pm appreciation of essential workers with the#HealthcareHeroes Concert Series featuring performances by Questlove, Gavin DeGraw and Meghan Trainor. These livestreams also feature the artists having candid conversations with the heroes featured in the special.
All of the performances have been streaming live via Northwell Health’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/c/NorthwellHealth1) at 7:00pm ET Mondays in May.
