Star Trek 3 has found its director!!!

According to a report from Deadline.com, Justin Lin, who has directed the Fast and the Furious franchise of films will take over the reigns of JJ Abram’s and helm Star Trek 3.

This news must at least be somewhat encouraging to Trekkies in that Paramount didn’t waste too much time finding a replacement for the initial choice, Roberto Orci, but, how do fans in general feel about the replacement?

I’m thinking the concern here will be if the Trek film franchise become too much like a Fast and the Furious flick,  with too many flashy visuals and not necessarily a ton of substance.  Oh wait, most fans seem to already feel it was that under Abrams, so I’m not to sure any fan will be pleased with this choice.

But before this guy gets thrown under the bus of this rabid fan-base, be aware he’s directed a well received Indie Noir thriller entitled Better Luck Tomorrow, and has also directed many episodes of the comedy series Community. Lastly, he’s also going to direct some episodes of the HBO series True Detective. So with that in mind, he’s put together a nice resume of film and TV…

Regardless of how this pans out, Paramount is obviously serious about getting out a 3rd Star Trek picture in time for the 50th anniversary of the series in general!
