‘Prisoners’ And ‘Lone Ranger’ Top DVD Releases For Dec.17

LONE RANGER FEATURE

The Lone Ranger. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDb Pro-rating 6.6. If you’re a Johnny Depp fan you won’t be disappointed. It’s a fun and entertaining movie with Armie Hammer doing a great tongue and cheek job as the Lone Ranger, and Johnny Depp as Tonto is a hoot. Just because it wan’t able to create it’s own Theme Park – it’s still a fun ride.

PRISONERS

Prisoners. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDb Pro-rating 8. Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Maria Bello, Viola Davis. Crime thriller still in consideration for Best Movie Oscar with plenty of buzz for Hugh Jackman gone Guantanomo Bay wacko after his daughter and her friend go missing and Jake Gyllenhaal as the Police detective trying to play it by the rules.

ELYSIUM

Elysium. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDb Pro-rating 6.8. Neil Blonenkamp’s follow-up to District 9. Science Fiction in a dystopian future where the rich live on a state of the art space station and the poor and starving live on Earth desperately needing some of the wealthy supplies to survive. Jodie Foster is a tough aristocrat who isn’t giving up any of her amenities that Matt Damon is determined to retrieve – one way or another. Sharlo Copley also stars.

SAINTS

Ain’t Them Bodies Saints. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDb Pro-rating 6.7. Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck star in this Sundance Film Festival nomination for Grand Jury Prize and winner for Best Cinematography. Husband and wife outlaws kill a man in a robbery attempt and the husband (Affleck) takes the rap and stiff jail sentence. His wife gives birth to a child he has never seen, and he decides to risk it all in a prison break to re-unite with his family one more time.

FAMILY

The Family. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDb Pro-rating 6.4. Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer star as Brooklyn mobsters who are sent with their two children (Dianna Argon and John D’Leo) into witness protection in the South of France. Their mob roots and criminal behavior begin to re-surface quickly which causes problems for their protector (Tommy Lee Jones).

Kick Ass

Kick Ass 2. DVD. Blue-Ray. IMDb Pro-rating 6.9. Not as good as the original but still plenty of over-the-top slapstick violence and laughs. Samuel Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz fight crime and evil in the character of Jim Carrey.
